Intimacy

That kind if intamacy

That builds

When you sleep in the same space

Share the same work

Learn together

The type of intimacy that builds

When you know each other

At your most vulnerable

At your most desperate

At a time when you are

Figuring it all out

That’s what I hold on to

Prosperity-a series of haikus

Part I

Sometimes I try to

Prosper like y’all forgetting

My family-regret

Part II

Then Remembering

That I don’t want that kind of

Prosperity, nope

Part III

Mimicking only

Leads to a repeat of long

Forgotten mistakes

Part IV

Instead I choose a

Path that we can take while

Leaving no one out

Part V

Together we go

Forward cherishing each step

Hand and hand-welcomed

Not so hurried

Sometimes we want them to already know

What we know

Sometimes we want them to be who they are going to be

Without know who they are now

Sometimes we try to hurry them

To be who we want them to be

Sometimes we try to hurry them to be

Who we see them as

Sometimes we hurry them along so fast

That they don’t get time to

Play

Rest

Tryout life before

Committing to who

They are

Committing to who

They want to be

Sometimes we want them to bloom

Before they are ready

Brothers and Sisters

They may have had

Crap parents

But they know about

Sibling love

The kind that

Teaches you kindness

And Goodness

The kind that always

Has a place for you

They know about that

Kind of love

That does not

Let them down

And teaches them

To love and live

A life worth

Living for

They will always know

About that kind of love

Sister

The darkest night of the year

It started in a classroom and ended in a hospital room

A piercing scream

Lumineers “Ophelia” on repeat

A mass shooting

A room so cold Filled with beeping

Snacks and a few pictures

That I thought would cheer you up

Because memories are sacred

And I wanted to hold on

To as many of them as possible

You came back for a second

To say goodbye

But then you were gone

And we were left to

Remember you

And your sources of happiness

We are here

We are here in this place of hate and fear

We are here in this place where

None of us can remain silent

We are here in this place where

We all shout out that:

“You are wrong

Children belong with their parents

Your fear and your hate-

you can keep all

to yourself.

We want no part in your political games

That

Destroys families and

That

Traumatizes us all

Leaving us

Broken and shattered

Like your

Political soul that

Survives on

Fear and hate”

We are here in this place

Where your

Fear and hate

Will

Not

Win

Cousins Like Mine

1. Cousins like Mine

Maybe you have

Cousins like mine

Brave and strong

Self sacrificing

Who you can call on at

Any time any where any place

Maybe you have

Cousins like mine

Who you can call up

Anytime teasing and laughing

Having a good ol’ time

Maybe you have

Cousins like mine

Who know the pain

Who know the love

Who know the grace

That our family has endured

Maybe you have

Cousins like mine

That blend together more like

Brothers and sisters

Maybe you have

Cousins like mine
